New Zealand’s First Tecnam P2012 Aircraft Ordered by Glenorchy Air
Glenorchy Air, a celebrated scenic flight operator based in Queenstown, New Zealand, is set to become the first customer for the Tecnam P2012 Traveller in the country. This significant development marks a milestone for both the operator and the Italian aircraft manufacturer.
The announcement was made on April 15, 2026, following the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand’s official validation of the P2012 in March 2026. This acquisition signifies a major leap in Glenorchy Air’s fleet expansion and the launch of a new charter brand, Queenstown Air Charter. This new brand will offer nationwide VFR and IFR charter services across New Zealand.
“Glenorchy Air is very excited to debut the Tecnam P2012 in New Zealand and use it to expand our capacity and capability into the 2026/27 summer season and beyond,” said James Stokes, CEO of Glenorchy Air. “Our management pilots and I viewed the aircraft at Oshkosh 2025, and we were extremely impressed with its passenger comfort and legroom, cockpit ergonomics, and beautiful Italian styling.”
The P2012 Traveller, powered by Continental engines, was specifically designed to meet the rigorous demands of regional airlines and charter operators. The aircraft offers unparalleled passenger comfort with a spacious cabin, premium seating, and large panoramic windows—making it perfect for the breathtaking scenic flights over Milford Sound and Mount Cook that Glenorchy Air is renowned for.
The introduction of the P2012 Traveller will allow Glenorchy Air to seamlessly access the IFR charter market and diversify its offerings. This will help maintain its position as TripAdvisor’s number one activity in Queenstown. The aircraft, currently in production, is expected to enter service in October 2026 and can seat up to nine passengers.
