Major Upgrades to American Airlines Regional Fleet: Wi-Fi, Power Outlets, and More
American Airlines has recently announced a significant upgrade to its regional aircraft fleet. The aim is to bring mainline-quality amenities to shorter routes, enhancing the passenger experience on these traditionally less-equipped flights.
By early 2026, all regional planes are expected to be equipped with onboard Wi-Fi, according to a company press release. This is part of a broader upgrade plan that includes updated seating, cabins, and the addition of power outlets at every seat.
The new Embraer 175 planes will feature enhanced Main Cabin Extra and Main Cabin seats. This move is designed to bring the regional flight experience closer to that of longer, mainline flights.
In addition to these upgrades, American Airlines has also revealed plans for a new daily summer seasonal route. Starting May 21, 2026, flights will operate from Phoenix (PHX) to Anchorage (ANC) using Airbus A321neo aircraft.
This expansion demonstrates the airline’s continued focus on connecting popular domestic destinations with enhanced aircraft and services.
