President Trump Calls for Intel CEO’s Resignation Amidst China Investment Controversy

President Donald Trump has demanded the immediate resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan on August 7, 2025. The president cited conflicts of interest stemming from Tan’s investments in Chinese companies. Trump expressed his concerns on Truth Social, stating that Tan “is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately.”

This demand comes in the wake of concerns raised by Sen. Tom Cotton about Tan’s reported investments in numerous Chinese tech firms. Among these firms are some with alleged ties to China’s military. Reuters previously reported that Tan has invested nearly $200 million in Chinese technology companies through various ventures.

Following Trump’s statement, Intel’s stock fell by 3%. This adds to the pressure on the chipmaker, which is already grappling with declining sales and competition in the AI sector. Tan, who assumed the role of CEO in March 2025, previously led Cadence Design Systems and was a founding member of Walden Catalyst Ventures.

Intel responded to the controversy by stating that the company remains “deeply committed to advancing U.S. national and economic security interests.” The company also expressed its eagerness to work with the Trump administration.
