Waymo Expands Robotaxi Service to Miami, Marking Its Sixth US Location

Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle unit, Waymo, officially launched its driverless robotaxi service to the public in Miami on January 22, 2026. This marks the company’s first market expansion of the year and further cements its position as a leader in the US autonomous vehicle industry.

The service is now operational across a 60-square-mile area covering Miami’s Design District, Wynwood, Brickell, and Coral Gables neighborhoods. Nearly 10,000 residents are already on a waiting list and will be invited to use the service on a rolling basis through the Waymo app.

Miami represents Waymo’s sixth operational market in the United States, following launches in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, and Atlanta. The company has ambitious plans for expansion to more than 10 additional US cities throughout 2026. These include:

  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Detroit
  • Houston
  • Las Vegas
  • Nashville
  • Orlando
  • San Antonio
  • San Diego
  • Washington, DC

Waymo is also testing internationally in Tokyo and London, with plans to launch its first overseas commercial service this year.

By the end of 2025, the company had served 14 million trips and reached 450,000 weekly paid rides in December. Waymo’s co-CEO, Tekedra Mawakana, has set an ambitious goal of delivering approximately 1 million trips per week by the end of 2026.

Waymo has partnered with mobility company Moove for fleet management services, which include vehicle charging, cleaning, and repairs. The company also announced that testing is already underway at Miami International Airport, with plans to extend service there in the near future.
