Etihad Airways Set to Introduce A380 Service to Tokyo in Summer 2026
Etihad Airways has unveiled plans to introduce its iconic Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft on the Abu Dhabi to Tokyo Narita route starting June 16, 2026. This move signifies a notable expansion of premium travel options between the United Arab Emirates and Japan.
The double-decker aircraft is scheduled to commence daily operations between Zayed Abu Dhabi International (AUH) and Narita International (NRT) just in time for the bustling summer travel season. This marks the inaugural time Etihad’s flagship A380 will serve the Japanese capital. Tokyo now joins the exclusive list of cities in Etihad’s A380 network, including London, Paris, Toronto, and Singapore.
The A380 is renowned for featuring The Residence, the only three-room suite in the sky worldwide. It can accommodate up to two guests with a private living room, bedroom, and ensuite bathroom complete with a shower. In addition, the aircraft offers nine luxurious First Apartments equipped with spacious leather lounge chairs and 80-inch lie-flat beds, 70 Business Studios on the upper deck, and 405 economy seats. The upper deck also houses The Lobby, a serviced lounge and bar area nestled between First and Business Class cabins.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, expressed that the airline has witnessed a “strong demand from customers for more seats to Japan.” The A380 deployment underscores the significance of business travel between the UAE and Japan, two nations with profound economic and cultural ties. This initiative is a part of Etihad’s wider strategy to reactivate its A380 fleet after several years of storage during the pandemic.
