Tragic Loss: NASCAR Icon Greg Biffle and Family Perish in Jet Crash
Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their two children were tragically among the seven victims of a Cessna Citation business jet crash. The unfortunate incident occurred while attempting to land at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina on the morning of December 18, 2025.
The aircraft, destined for Florida, crashed at approximately 10:15 a.m. local time. It had turned back shortly after takeoff due to adverse weather conditions. The heavy drizzle and poor visibility, with cloud ceilings dropping to around 400 feet, are believed to have contributed to the crash.
The 55-year-old racing legend, who was not piloting the aircraft, was a passenger along with his wife, their 14-year-old daughter Emma, 5-year-old son Ryder, and three others: Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth.
Biffle, a celebrated figure in the racing world, had won 19 Cup Series races during his 15-year NASCAR career. He was also named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers. In recent years, Biffle had become renowned for his humanitarian work. He actively flew helicopter rescue missions to deliver supplies to Western North Carolina communities devastated by Hurricane Helene in 2024.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the cause of the crash.
