Major Airlines Face Unprecedented Disruptions: Over 3,000 Delays Across Europe
On November 24, 2025, thousands of travelers found themselves stranded across Europe. Major airlines including British Airways, KLM, Euroatlantic Airways, Swiss, and Air Dolomiti faced significant disruptions, with 124 flight cancellations and a staggering 3,059 delays. These disruptions affected major cities such as London, Amsterdam, Nantes, and Rome.
Severe cold weather conditions were the primary cause of these disruptions. Key European airports, notably London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Rome Fiumicino, bore the brunt of the impact. Freezing temperatures, icy conditions, and snowstorms created technical issues and unsafe travel conditions, leaving thousands of passengers in uncertainty regarding their travel plans.
Amsterdam Schiphol reported the highest number of delays with 287 flights, accounting for 41% of departures. Zurich also faced significant operational challenges with 45% of flights delayed. Brussels Airport was not spared either, experiencing 7 cancellations and 92 delays, leading to extended waiting times across the region.
The disruptions were widespread, affecting the UK, Netherlands, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Spain. With no immediate resolution in sight, passengers struggled to find alternative flights or make new arrangements. As airlines and airports worked tirelessly to address the weather-related operational challenges, travel experts advised passengers to regularly check their flight status and allow extra time for potential delays as winter weather continues to impact European aviation.
