Archer Aviation Secures LA Airport for $126M as Hub for Air Taxi Network
Archer Aviation, a pioneer in electric aircraft development, announced on November 6, 2025, its acquisition of the Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Los Angeles. The $126 million deal positions the airport as the central hub for Archer’s forthcoming air taxi network.
The Hawthorne Airport, located a mere three miles from LAX at 12101 Crenshaw Boulevard, is set to become Archer’s flagship base for eVTOL operations. This strategic move comes in anticipation of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where Archer is the official air taxi provider. The company’s ambitious plan is to connect LAX to major city destinations.
“The era of advanced aviation has arrived—not as a distant vision, but as a tangible reality,” said Adam Goldstein, Archer founder and CEO. “At Archer, we are not waiting for the future; we are building it.”
In tandem with the airport acquisition, Archer has successfully raised $650 million in new equity capital. This boosts the company’s total liquidity to over $2 billion. The funds will be used to redevelop approximately 200,000 square feet of hangar space for aircraft testing, charging, and maintenance operations for its four-passenger Midnight eVTOL aircraft.
The acquisition also includes rights to purchase a 75% controlling stake in the airport’s fixed-base operator, Jet Center Los Angeles. This will create an integrated platform for fuel, aircraft handling, and air taxi services.
United Airlines, through its investment arm United Airlines Ventures, has expressed strong support for Archer’s advanced aviation initiatives.
