Major Safety Recall for Jeep Grand Cherokee Hybrids Due to Power Loss
Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has announced a significant safety recall. The recall affects 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid SUVs from model years 2022-2026. The issue at hand is a critical software malfunction that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The root cause of this defect is an overloaded battery pack control module microprocessor. This overload can trigger a reset, causing the hybrid control processor to misinterpret signals. The result could be an unexpected propulsion loss. The vehicles in question were manufactured between July 23, 2021, and August 29, 2025.
As of August 18, Stellantis has received 96 customer complaints, 110 field reports, and 320 service records related to this issue. However, no injuries or accidents have been confirmed as a result of this defect.
Starting September 11, vehicle owners can check their VIN on the NHTSA website to see if their vehicle is affected by the recall. Notification letters will be mailed out starting October 23. A software remedy is currently under development to fix this issue.
