September Emerges as New Peak Travel Month Amid Spain’s Tourism Boom

Spain is breaking all previous tourism records, welcoming 11 million international visitors in July alone. This is the highest monthly total ever recorded. The shift in travel patterns has transformed September from a shoulder season to a peak travel period. The first seven months of 2025 saw the country welcome a staggering 55.5 million arrivals, with tourist spending skyrocketing to over €76 billion. This represents a 7.2% increase from 2024.

British, French, and German travelers are the main drivers behind this unprecedented growth.

Changing Travel Patterns:

Now, only 40% of Spanish travelers choose to vacation in the traditional August period. Instead, one in six are opting for September. This trend isn’t limited to locals; international visitors are also extending their stays, keeping beaches and resorts bustling well beyond the traditional summer months.

However, this shift in travel patterns is not without its costs. Hotel prices in the Canary Islands have seen a 5.3% year-over-year increase in September 2024. They are now 25% higher than the prices in 2019. Across Spain, the average accommodation cost stands at €132 per night in September, marking a 21% jump from 2023.

Despite the higher prices, international tourists are spending approximately €1,490 per trip (€210 daily for week-long stays). This indicates that the demand for Spanish destinations remains strong and resilient.
