Weather Observation Systems Upgraded at Seven Oklahoma Airports
Seven airports in Oklahoma have recently upgraded their Automated Weather Observation Systems (AWOS). This initiative, funded by the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA), is part of a broader effort to enhance flight safety and operational reliability across the state.
The airports that received these upgraded AWOS replacements include:
- Ada Regional
- Alva Regional
- Claremore Regional
- Grove Regional
- Sallisaw Municipal
The average cost for each system was around $133,793. Furthermore, Fairview Municipal and South Grand Lake Regional airports received entirely new installations to fill service gaps, with each system costing approximately $233,390.
“Oklahoma is well-known for its rapidly changing weather, and it is critical that pilots know the real-time weather conditions at airports across the state,” said Nick Young, ODAA airport division manager. “These AWOS installations deliver on our commitment to improve safety and enhance operational reliability statewide.”
The majority of the funding for this project was provided by ODAA resources, with local airport sponsors contributing smaller matching amounts.
