AAD Launches National Healthy Skin Month 2026: Your Skin Tells All
This November, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) is highlighting the connection between skin health and overall wellness as it kicks off National Healthy Skin Month 2026.
With the message “Love and protect the skin you’re in,” the AAD encourages people to view their skin not just as an external feature, but as a vital indicator of health. According to Dr. Nazarian, a dermatologist featured in the campaign, skin findings can prompt further evaluation for conditions such as diabetes, lupus, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis, as well as vitamin or iron deficiencies.
The campaign also draws attention to hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting more than 3 million Americans that remains widely underdiagnosed. Dermatologists are trained to diagnose and treat more than 3,000 skin conditions, and early detection through a skin check could be life-changing.
As cooler weather arrives and skin becomes more vulnerable to dryness and damage, dermatologists recommend making these practices part of your routine:
- Moisturize consistently.
- Use sunscreen with SPF every day.
- Schedule an annual full-body skin exam.
