Google and Constellation Energy Forge $4.3B Nuclear Energy Partnership

In a landmark move that underscores Big Tech’s insatiable appetite for clean energy, Google (Alphabet) and Constellation Energy announced a massive long-term power agreement on October 6, 2026. The deal will bring 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity — roughly equivalent to a brand-new reactor — onto the PJM Interconnection grid, serving 67 million people across 13 states.

Under the terms of the 20-year power purchase agreement, Constellation will upgrade turbines, steam generators, and digital control systems at 11 existing nuclear reactor units across Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. These upgrades will be backed by more than $4.3 billion in Constellation investment, with the first upgraded plant delivering new electricity as soon as 2028. Additionally, Google has entered a separate 15-year supply agreement for an extra 2,700 MW, bringing the total contracted power to an enormous 3,590 MW.

This deal is the latest in a wave of tech-nuclear partnerships. Amazon recently inked a similar deal with Constellation, while Microsoft is already buying power from the restarted Three Mile Island plant in Pennsylvania. In response to the news, Constellation’s stock surged 12.25%. As part of the agreement, Constellation will also deploy Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise AI tools to modernize grid operations under a new “AI for Energy” blueprint.
