Record-Breaking Participation Marks the Conclusion of the 2025 Air Race Classic
The 48th annual Air Race Classic has drawn to a triumphant close, with a record-breaking number of over 90 female pilots successfully navigating the demanding 2,400-mile cross-country race. The race route spanned from Fairhope, Alabama, to Spokane, Washington, and the competition took place from June 17-20, 2025. This event served as a celebration of women’s significant contributions to aviation, as well as a showcase of exceptional piloting skills.
Claiming first place in the Competition Class was Team 41, the “Skybound Scotts”. Piloted by Lauren Scott and Rebecca Carroll in a Cessna 182P, the team excelled in a race format that values strategic flight planning and weather management skills. The goal was not simply to arrive first, but to beat their aircraft’s handicap speed.
The event carries forward a rich tradition that dates back to the 1929 Women’s Air Derby, where pioneering aviators like Amelia Earhart paved the way for future generations. This year’s race underscored the importance of encouraging women in aviation. The participants represented a wide range of experience levels, from student pilots to seasoned airline professionals.
