Epic Flight Academy Embraces 529 Savings Plans for Pilot Training

Aspiring pilots and aviation mechanics in the United States have a powerful new way to fund their careers. Epic Flight Academy, recognized as the largest FAA Part 141 flight school in the U.S., has announced it now accepts 529 education savings plan payments for qualifying aviation training programs.

This move allows families who have built up tax-advantaged college savings to apply those funds directly toward flight training and aircraft mechanic programs. Students enrolled in eligible FAA Part 141 flight programs or FAA Part 147 aircraft mechanic programs may use 529 funds to cover:

  • Tuition and required training fees
  • Flight and ground instruction
  • Aircraft or simulator training
  • Books and materials
  • Required examinations
  • Required supplies and equipment

“Parents have frequently reached out inquiring about 529 plans, so we are happy to be able to accept payment from these plans now,” said Cindy Lovell, Epic’s Director of Education. “This offers another option for students who seek vocational and technical training in the field of aviation.”

The development is enabled by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (Section 70414), signed into law in July 2025, which expanded 529 plan eligibility to include FAA-certified vocational training. Epic Flight Academy operates multiple campuses across Florida. Families are advised to consult their CPA or 529 plan administrator for individual guidance.
