Club Med Unveils a First-of-its-Kind Beach and Safari Resort in South Africa
July marked a significant milestone in African luxury tourism as one of the world’s most iconic travel brands, Club Med, officially opened its doors in South Africa.
Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari, situated on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, a mere 45 minutes north of Durban and 30 minutes from King Shaka International Airport, welcomed its first guests in the first week of July 2026. This resort is not only the first Club Med property on South African soil but also the first hotel in the country to introduce a dual beach-and-safari concept, setting a new standard in African hospitality.
The resort boasts 411 rooms and suites, including 66 exclusive Ilanga suites with private pools, all nestled within 32 hectares of untouched Indian Ocean coastline.
Experience the Best of Both Worlds
Guests can enjoy a unique blend of beachside relaxation and immersive safari adventures. The Vikela Safari Lodge, also known as Mpilo Lodge, is nestled within a private 18,000-hectare game reserve that is home to the Big Five — lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and Cape buffalos.
- Beach resort activities include a surf school, watersports, gravel biking, padel courts, Club Med’s signature flying trapeze, and a dedicated spa and zen zone.
An Investment in South Africa
The R2.1 billion project, developed by Collins Residential and backed by a South African investment consortium, is projected to create over 800 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs. In addition, Club Med has collaborated with the Nukakamma Talent Development Centre to train 160 young South Africans in hospitality. A 7-night beach stay starts at $2,289 per person.
