Apple and Intel Forge Landmark Partnership to Manufacture Chips in the U.S., Triggering Stock Surge
A significant shift is taking place in the global semiconductor industry. Apple and Intel have reached a landmark agreement to design and manufacture chips together on American soil. The partnership was announced by President Donald Trump on June 18, 2026, via Truth Social, as part of the administration’s aggressive push to restore U.S. semiconductor dominance and reduce reliance on overseas manufacturers.
Intel’s stock surged as much as 10.5%, climbing to $133.82 per share on the news, while markets reacted positively across the board. The deal, reportedly in the works for over a year of intensive negotiations, marks the first major manufacturing partnership between Apple and Intel since Apple transitioned away from Intel-designed chips for its Mac computers.
Historically, Apple has relied almost exclusively on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for its chip production. However, growing demand from AI chipmakers such as Nvidia has strained available capacity.
Intel, under CEO Lip-Bu Tan, has been investing billions to revitalize its foundry business and attract major external customers. While neither company has officially confirmed the full scope of the deal — and Apple has not yet publicly commented — analysts say securing Apple as a manufacturing customer would be a landmark achievement for Intel’s foundry division and a significant boost to U.S. chip independence.
Industry experts warn, however, that new fabrication facilities will take years to come fully online.
