FIFA World Cup 2026: Hotel Rates Skyrocket in US Host Cities

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup unfolds from June 11 to July 19, spanning across 16 host cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, travelers and sports enthusiasts are grappling with soaring costs. Hotel rates in the 11 US host cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami, have surged to 40–80% above the usual seasonal rates during peak match periods, as reported by corporate travel analysts at CTM.

The average hotel rates during match-weeks vary, with prices starting from approximately $200/night in Houston and escalating to over $1,200/night in Vancouver. Most cities are charging between $350–700 per night. Concurrently, return economy airfares to US host cities have seen a 30–60% hike from mid-June through mid-July. Dallas (Arlington) leads the pack with 9 hosted matches, closely followed by Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York/New Jersey, each hosting 8 matches.

However, there’s a silver lining for budget-conscious fans. Sports Illustrated reports that hotel prices in World Cup host cities have dipped by approximately one-third from their 2025 peaks, as hotels adjust to the real demand. Furthermore, Airbnb data reveals that in Canadian host cities Toronto and Vancouver, a significant number of available listings are priced under $500 CAD per night. Families and groups account for over half of the World Cup bookings made so far. Travel managers are urged to secure accommodation and ground transport immediately, or consider rerouting itineraries to alternative cities where possible.
