Mobileye Sets Sights on U.S. Robotaxi Market with 100-Car Fleet by 2027

On June 16, 2026, self-driving technology supplier Mobileye Global (Nasdaq: MBLY) made a game-changing announcement. The company is making a significant strategic shift from its traditional role as a technology supplier to automakers to enter the robotaxi market directly. The Jerusalem-based company has plans to roll out an initial fleet of 100 autonomous vehicles in a major U.S. city starting in 2027, with fully driverless operations launching in phases throughout the year.

But Mobileye’s vision extends far beyond this initial launch. The company aims to expand the fleet to an estimated 17,000 vehicles over the next five years. The service will leverage Mobileye’s Level 4 autonomous driving system, Mobileye Drive, which boasts 13 cameras, 3 long-range LiDARs, and 6 radars. This technology will be integrated with the ride-hailing platform of its Moovit subsidiary, a service that caters to over 1.7 billion users across 3,500 cities in 112 countries. The comprehensive service will also include fleet management, AV mission control, and teleoperation infrastructure.

News of this ambitious venture sent Mobileye’s stock soaring by approximately 6%. This move puts Mobileye in direct competition with some of its own customers, including Alphabet’s Waymo, Tesla, Amazon’s Zoox, and Lyft. Further commercial details will be shared at a Capital Markets Day before the end of 2026.
