Apple’s Major AI Revamp: The Launch of ‘Siri AI’ at WWDC 2026
On Monday, June 9, 2026, Apple made a significant stride in the realm of artificial intelligence at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The conference, held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, saw the tech giant rebrand and overhaul its long-struggling digital assistant, now known as Siri AI. This move signifies Apple’s bid for a full AI redemption, following years of delays and unfulfilled promises.
The new and improved Siri is touted by Apple as “a profoundly more capable assistant.” It boasts the ability to engage in multi-turn conversations, draw on real-time world knowledge, and interact with personal data across various apps. Among the new features are cross-app context awareness — such as pulling details from a user’s Messages history to compile a dinner menu or draft a follow-up email — and AI-powered reply suggestions in Messages and mid-call context from Mail. Additionally, Apple announced a standalone Siri app that syncs conversation history via iCloud across all devices, including Macs and Apple Watch.
In a surprising move, Apple revealed its collaboration with Google’s Gemini family of models to power its next-generation Apple Intelligence experiences. The company emphasized a privacy-first approach, with Apple SVP Craig Federighi stating, “We believe privacy in AI is non-negotiable.” The new operating systems — iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, and more — are set to ship alongside these updates in fall 2026. However, due to regulatory challenges, Siri AI will not be available in the EU or China at launch.
The WWDC 2026 was also a poignant event for outgoing CEO Tim Cook, who delivered a heartfelt farewell in what is expected to be his final developer keynote before stepping down in September 2026. Following the announcements, Apple’s stock dipped nearly 2%, sparking mixed reactions among analysts.
