Revolutionary Nasal Spray Reverses Brain Aging: A Breakthrough Study
Researchers at Texas A&M University have developed a groundbreaking nasal spray that not only reduces inflammation but also restores cognitive function, effectively reversing brain aging. The study, published in the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles, revealed that just two doses of the spray significantly improved memory and brain cell function in aging subjects, with effects lasting for months.
The therapy employs microscopic extracellular vesicles derived from neural stem cells. These are delivered directly to the brain via a simple nasal spray. The vesicles contain microRNAs that act as “master regulators”, turning off inflammatory signals and enhancing the brain’s energy systems. Dr. Ashok Shetty, the lead researcher, stated, “What we’re showing is brain aging can be reversed, to help people stay mentally sharp, socially engaged and free from age-related decline.”
The treatment specifically targets “neuroinflammaging” – a chronic low-level inflammation in the brain’s memory center that was previously considered an inevitable part of aging. Given that dementia cases are projected to double to 1 million annually by 2060 in the United States, this non-invasive approach could provide a transformative alternative to current treatments. The research team has filed a patent and is now working toward human clinical trials.
