Caribbean Islands: U.S. Reaffirms Safe Travel Status

The U.S. State Department has recently extended the Level 1 “Exercise Normal Precautions” advisories for several popular Caribbean island destinations. This reaffirmation of safe travel status, announced between May 20-22, 2026, is a positive indication for summer travelers and the region’s tourism industry.

The updated advisories cover the following destinations:

  • Anguilla
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • The British Virgin Islands
  • The Cayman Islands
  • Dominica

Travelers are encouraged to exercise normal precautions while visiting these countries and territories this summer, as confirmed by the State Department.

These announcements are part of a broader May update that saw more than two dozen travel advisories issued globally. Despite heightened warnings for several Middle Eastern destinations due to ongoing regional conflicts, the Caribbean islands have maintained their reputation as safe vacation spots heading into the peak summer travel season.

Other notable updates include Iceland retaining its position as one of the world’s safest destinations with a Level 1 advisory reissued on May 5. Croatia received a Level 1 designation and Sweden a Level 2 rating (due to terrorism concerns) in updates published on May 18.

The State Department reviews advisories for Level 1 and Level 2 countries at least every 12 months. This ensures travelers have current information when planning international trips. Tour operators and cruise lines serving Caribbean routes are expected to benefit from the continued positive safety ratings during the crucial summer booking period.
