Anthropic Lifts AI Ban, Welcomes Job Seekers to Utilize Claude

AI company Anthropic has made a significant shift in its hiring policy, now permitting job applicants to utilize its Claude AI assistant during the application process, a move that comes after a previous blanket ban on all AI tools.

The tech behemoth, valued at $61.5 billion, has updated its hiring guidelines to allow candidates to use Claude for tasks such as resume refinement, cover letter polishing, and interview preparation. However, the company continues to enforce strict boundaries—AI assistance is still off-limits during live interviews and most assessments, unless explicitly permitted.

“At Anthropic, we use Claude every day, so we’re looking for candidates who excel at collaborating with AI,” the company outlined in its updated candidate guidelines.

Job seekers are required to write their own first drafts but are then allowed to use Claude to “polish how they communicate about their work.”

The policy change comes on the heels of Anthropic’s decision to completely ban AI tools from its hiring process in May 2025. Jimmy Gould, Head of Talent at Anthropic, acknowledged the shift on LinkedIn, describing it as “intentional” and emphasizing the company’s dedication to experimenting with AI in hiring while addressing fairness concerns.

Anthropic’s policy reversal underscores the growing acceptance of AI tools in professional settings, even as other companies like Goldman Sachs continue to enforce strict prohibitions. The company has plans to regularly review and update the policy to keep pace with evolving AI capabilities, indicating that this may not be the final version of their hiring practices.
