Google and Warby Parker Collaborate on AI-Enhanced Smart Glasses
At the I/O 2026 conference on May 20, Google announced a significant venture into the realm of intelligent eyewear. The tech giant is partnering with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to launch AI-powered smart glasses this fall. This collaboration also brings in Samsung’s hardware engineering expertise, with the aim of integrating Gemini AI assistant capabilities into stylish, wearable frames for everyday use.
The forthcoming intelligent eyewear will boast audio capabilities, enabling users to access Gemini by simply saying “Hey Google” or tapping the frame. The glasses will offer a multitude of functions, including:
- Asking questions about surroundings
- Getting turn-by-turn navigation
- Sending texts
- Taking photos
- Interacting with phone apps—all hands-free
These glasses will be compatible with both Android and iOS devices, positioning them as a direct competitor to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.
“Intelligent eyewear represents a powerful step forward in our shared vision with Samsung to make AI more helpful and accessible in everyday life,” said Shahram Izadi, Vice President and GM of Android XR at Google.
Warby Parker co-founder Dave Gilboa also emphasized the importance of attention to detail when integrating advanced technology into everyday wearables. The smart glasses market is projected to skyrocket, with expected revenue reaching $4.2 billion by 2028, a significant increase from less than $500 million in 2024.
