AOPA Spearheads Mental Health Initiative for Pilots
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has inaugurated a comprehensive, month-long initiative focused on pilot mental health. This initiative, which will run throughout May 2026, coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month. It aims to amalgamate educational content, expert advice, and advocacy updates.
Jeppesen ForeFlight, the sponsor of this initiative, is committed to reducing stigma and providing precise guidance on maintaining both mental wellness and FAA medical certification. The program addresses prevalent concerns among pilots, such as:
- Fear of losing medical certificates
- Stigma associated with mental health in aviation
- Lack of actionable information
“Mental health remains one of the biggest challenges facing pilots and the aviation industry today,” said AOPA Acting Co-President Katie Pribyl. “AOPA has been tirelessly working on this issue for years. Our advocacy efforts with Congress and the FAA have led to many of the improvements we’ve seen so far, but we still have a long journey ahead.”
All resources released throughout May will be consolidated in AOPA’s Mental Health Resource Center. This will provide pilots with continuous access to crucial information.
