SpaceX Reduces Starlink Aviation Prices in Response to Pilot Criticism
SpaceX is responding to widespread criticism from the general aviation community by lowering prices and significantly increasing data allowances for its Starlink Aviation service. The company announced on April 28, 2026, that its General Aviation Local plan now costs $200 per month, down from $250, while included data has tripled from 20GB to 60GB.
The pricing revision comes after a fierce backlash from pilots who were forced off affordable Roam plans earlier this year when SpaceX imposed a 100 mph speed cap on standard plans. This change pushed general aviation operators to aviation-specific tiers that initially cost up to $1,000 per month with minimal data allowances.
More than 9,000 pilots signed a Change.org petition calling the initial pricing restructure a “bait and switch,” with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association sending a formal letter to CEO Elon Musk. The new pricing structure still requires pilots to use dedicated aviation plans for in-flight connectivity, but the improved value may help restore confidence in what many pilots considered a critical safety tool for accessing real-time weather data and flight planning resources.
