Lululemon Appoints Former Nike Executive, Heidi O’Neill, as New CEO

Lululemon Athletica announced on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the appointment of Heidi O’Neill, a seasoned Nike veteran, as its new Chief Executive Officer. The change in leadership, effective from September 8, comes as the Vancouver-based athleisure retailer seeks to rejuvenate the brand following a year of underwhelming performance and escalating investor pressure.

O’Neill, who previously held the position of Nike’s President of Consumer, Product and Brand, played a pivotal role in expanding Nike from a $9 billion enterprise to a $45 billion global athletic brand. In her new role, she will receive an annual base salary of $1.4 million, with a target bonus of 200% of that amount, in addition to equity awards valued at approximately $10 million.

The leadership change arrives at a crucial juncture for Lululemon, which has witnessed its stock price plummet by more than 50% since June 2025. The company is grappling with several challenges, including:

  • Stagnant sales growth
  • Rising competition
  • Anticipated tariff costs of $380 million this year
  • A public proxy battle with founder Chip Wilson

Despite a 5% decline in the company’s Americas sales in the most recent quarter, international markets have demonstrated growth.

Investor response to the announcement has been guarded, with Lululemon shares dropping as much as 12%. O’Neill’s responsibilities will include reigniting product innovation, restoring the brand’s cultural relevance, and addressing criticism that the company has lost its competitive edge in the saturated athleisure market. Interim co-CEOs Meghan Frank and AndrĂ© Maestrini will continue to steer the company until O’Neill assumes her new role.
