Disney Cruise Line Expands Global Reach with New Adventure Ship in Southeast Asia
Disney Cruise Line celebrated the christening of its newest and largest vessel, the Disney Adventure, in Singapore this week. This event signifies the company’s first cruise ship to homeport in Southeast Asia, marking a significant step in its global expansion.
The Disney Adventure, a 209,000-gross-ton ship, is set to accommodate 6,700 passengers and 2,500 crew members. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for March 10, 2026, from Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore. This eighth vessel of Disney Cruise Line represents a significant milestone in the company’s ambitious plan to add 13 ships to its fleet by 2031.
Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr. had the honor of serving as the ship’s godparent at the spectacular christening ceremony. The event featured a 23-piece orchestra, regional vocalists, and performances celebrating Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters. The ship boasts seven immersive themed areas, including Disney Cruise Line’s first-ever roller coaster at sea, the Ironcycle Test Run.
Disney’s expansion strategy comes in response to a 6% decline in international travel to the United States in 2025, which further dropped by 4.8% in January 2026, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council. The company’s focus is on bringing its brand directly to the burgeoning Asian markets, where cruise tourism witnessed a 13% increase in 2024, reaching 2.6 million passengers.
The Disney Adventure is set to operate three- and four-night itineraries exclusively from Singapore, thanks to a long-term partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board. Disney Cruise Line President Joe Schott emphasized the ship’s role as a “brand ambassador” in reaching Southeast Asian audiences who may not have previously accessed Disney experiences. The company reports an impressive 80% booking for its cruises for fiscal 2026.
