WTTC Global Summit 2027 to be Hosted by New Delhi, India
In a significant development for Asia’s burgeoning travel industry, New Delhi has been chosen to host the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in 2027. This decision comes after a competitive process involving over 20 global destinations. The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the 2026 WTTC Global Summit in Valletta, Malta on October 9.
This decision situates one of the travel industry’s most esteemed annual events in a nation where domestic tourism is already a dominant force. As per the latest Economic Impact Research by WTTC, India’s Travel & Tourism sector contributed a whopping US$263.6 billion to the national economy in 2025. This represents a growth rate of 7.3% and supported 46.2 million jobs, accounting for more than one in ten jobs across the country. Domestic visitor spending alone amounted to US$203 billion in 2025, making up 86% of the total sector spending.
Looking ahead, WTTC predicts that India’s Travel & Tourism economy could potentially reach an astounding US$527 billion by 2036. This could elevate India from the world’s tenth-largest to the fourth-largest tourism economy. The 2027 Delhi summit is anticipated to draw around 5,000 attendees. This includes top travel and tourism CEOs, government ministers, and international investors, with a focus on hospitality, aviation, technology, and destination development.
