JW Marriott Debuts Its First All-Inclusive Resort in Costa Rica
Luxury hospitality has taken a significant leap forward on the Pacific coast of Central America. JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa officially opened its doors on October 6, 2026, in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This marks the brand’s inaugural all-inclusive property worldwide, signifying a bold and historic shift for the renowned luxury hotel brand.
Located atop the secluded bay of Playa El Jobo on Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast, the resort boasts 415 rooms (including swim-out suites), 17 pools — the largest poolscape in the country, a private beach, a dedicated Mindfulness House wellness sanctuary, and 15 culinary venues. These range from a Costa Rican regional tasting menu to a charming root beer stand, a nod to Marriott’s founding history. Guests also have exclusive access to the Griffin Club, a luxury resort-within-a-resort experience with a private lounge, dedicated concierge, and private beach access.
The property, a collaboration with Mullen Real Estate Capital and managed by Mullen Hospitality Management, has undergone a $60 million transformation from the former Dreams Las Mareas resort. Unlike traditional all-inclusive hotels, the resort focuses on curated luxury and small-group dining rather than a buffet-and-volume model. It also integrates indigenous Bribri and Cabécar cultural storytelling into its architecture and design. The opening is set to significantly enhance high-end tourism in the La Cruz area of northern Guanacaste.
