President Trump Inaugurates the Era of ‘Super Intelligence’

In a significant rebranding move in U.S. technology policy history, President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14434, titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence,” on September 29, 2026. This order directs all executive branch agencies to replace the terms “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in all official communications, websites, reports, and policy documents.

The order positions Super Intelligence as the federal government’s official terminology, arguing that the new name more accurately reflects the advancements of frontier AI systems. Agencies are mandated to stop using the older terms in relevant settings, with the exception of previously issued regulations, contracts, and historical documents.

The Assistant to the President for Science and Technology has been given until November 28, 2026 — 60 days post-signing — to propose federal legislation that establishes an official definition of “Super Intelligence.”

Simultaneously with the executive order, Trump hosted a White House roundtable where leaders from Meta, Nvidia, Google, OpenAI, xAI, and Anthropic signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence. This voluntary pact commits the companies to implement internal safety guardrails and four layers of risk-monitoring controls for frontier AI models. Trump described the accord as “morally binding” on its signatories.

While critics argue that this move risks fragmenting global AI terminology and complicating international AI safety discussions, supporters see it as a bold assertion of U.S. technological leadership.

On October 4, Trump announced the formation of a new Super Intelligence Force, which will be led by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton.
