Lowe’s Pioneers Retail Innovation with 20-Minute Drone Delivery in Collaboration with DoorDash & Wing
In a groundbreaking stride for retail innovation, Lowe’s has emerged as the premier home improvement retailer in the United States to introduce drone delivery. The live pilot program was launched on September 24, 2026, in collaboration with DoorDash and Alphabet’s Wing.
The pilot is presently functioning from a single Lowe’s store in Matthews, North Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte. It enables eligible customers to order from a selection of over 100 products such as hand tools, painter’s tape, batteries, and caulk, via a dedicated “Lowe’s by Drone” storefront on the DoorDash app. Orders weighing up to 2.5 pounds are delivered straight to a customer’s yard or driveway by Wing’s autonomous drones within a swift 20 minutes.
The service is specifically designed to address a common issue: mid-project supply shortages. “By piloting drone delivery, we’re addressing a real project pain point with an innovative solution,” stated Seemantini Godbole, Lowe’s Chief Information and AI Officer.
Lowe’s is actively monitoring store associate feedback and DoorDash data to evaluate whether the program warrants expansion to additional stores. The drone delivery option enhances Lowe’s existing fulfillment suite, which includes buy online pick up in-store, curbside pickup, and same-day delivery. Competitor Walmart already operates Wing-powered delivery from more than 150 stores, while Amazon Prime Air is aiming to reach nearly 500 U.S. cities by the end of 2026.
