Apple Unveils iOS 27 Featuring a Redesigned Siri AI for a Multitude of iPhones

Apple has officially unveiled iOS 27, marking one of their most significant software updates in recent years. The update began rolling out to compatible iPhones on September 14, 2026. The standout feature of this release is the revamped Siri AI—a comprehensive architectural overhaul of Apple’s virtual assistant that has been in development for a long time and experienced numerous delays.

The new Siri AI boasts the ability to answer complex questions, execute multi-step prompts, extract personal context from a variety of apps, and utilize what is currently displayed on screen to provide more intelligent responses. Apple has also launched a dedicated standalone Siri app, allowing users to review past conversations. This update is released in conjunction with macOS Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.

However, the rollout does come with certain restrictions: Siri AI is launching in beta, requires users to opt in via Settings, and may involve a waitlist. Full Siri AI functionality is limited to devices equipped with an Apple A17 Pro chip or newer—specifically, the iPhone 15 Pro and later models—although the base iOS 27 is accessible for iPhones as far back as the iPhone 11. Apple collaborated with Google, utilizing its Gemini models to assist in training the algorithms that power the new assistant. For advanced cloud-based queries, Apple employs Private Cloud Compute infrastructure powered by Google Cloud with Nvidia and Intel chips.

Apple CEO John Ternus characterized the new assistant as “personal intelligence that’s actually personal” during the company’s recent iPhone launch event. The new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are set to hit store shelves this week, with the foldable iPhone Duo anticipated to arrive next month.
