Major Restructuring: Siemens Energy Initiates $6B Spin-Off of Industry Unit

On August 25, 2026, German energy titan Siemens Energy AG declared its plans to legally and operationally segregate its Transformation of Industry (ToI) division. This significant business unit specializes in the manufacturing of compressors, industrial steam turbines, hydrogen electrolysers, and Power-to-X technologies.

The ToI division, boasting a workforce of approximately 17,000, generated a remarkable €5.7 billion in revenue in FY 2025 and posted an 11.3% profit margin. Siemens Energy’s vision is to establish the unit as a fully standalone entity. The company is contemplating options that range from attracting external investors to a potential IPO, while maintaining a ‘meaningful’ minority stake. Goldman Sachs has been appointed as the financial adviser for this process.

This strategic move is part of a broader plan to refocus on the parent company’s core power generation and power transmission businesses. These areas are witnessing a tremendous surge in demand, driven by AI data centers and the global energy transition. Siemens Energy also revealed its ongoing rebranding process, renaming its remaining operations as ‘Omterra.’

The restructuring stems from a position of financial strength: Siemens Energy recorded record Q3 FY2026 orders and reaffirmed its full-year guidance for comparable revenue growth of 14–16%.
