L’Oréal and NUS Medicine Launch Lab to Explore Skin’s Role in Aging
In a significant development for the beauty and wellness sectors, L’Oréal Groupe and the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), declared a multi-year strategic research alliance on August 11, 2026. This alliance also includes the inauguration of a shared laboratory, focusing on the insights skin, scalp, and hair provide about the body’s aging process.
The new lab, situated at the Healthy Longevity Clinical Trial Centre on the NUS Medicine campus in Singapore, combines L’Oréal’s sophisticated skin, scalp, and hair assessment capabilities with cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive, and musculoskeletal measurements from the same clinical research participants. The objective is to ascertain if visible skin aging can act as a non-invasive marker of systemic biological aging across various organ systems.
“Skin has been an underutilised window into the biology of aging,” stated Professor Andrea Maier, founder and director of the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity. This collaboration signifies L’Oréal’s increasing investment in longevity science as a strategic frontier, propelling beauty research far beyond mere cosmetic concerns. The French beauty giant currently allocates €1.3 billion annually to research and innovation across 22 centers globally, backed by a team of 4,000 scientists.
The findings from this partnership will contribute to L’Oréal’s Longevity Integrative Science™ platform, potentially guiding a new era of personalized, evidence-based beauty solutions for skin, scalp, and hair.
