Airbnb Achieves Record $3.6B Quarter, Boosted by AI and World Cup
Airbnb (NASDAQ: ABNB) has announced a groundbreaking second quarter for 2026, achieving record-breaking results that boosted its stock by over 10% in extended trading. The San Francisco-based travel platform reported a quarterly revenue of $3.61 billion, marking a 17% year-over-year increase and comfortably surpassing Wall Street analyst consensus estimates of $3.57 billion.
The earnings per share reached $1.37, an increase from $1.03 a year ago, and approximately 9.5% above analyst forecasts. The Gross Booking Value (GBV) reached $27.2 billion, a 16% year-over-year increase, while the number of nights and experiences booked rose by 10% to 148.3 million for the quarter. CEO Brian Chesky attributed this growth to two main factors: AI-powered product innovation and a significant boost from the FIFA World Cup hosted across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Airbnb’s strategy to become an AI-first travel platform is yielding noticeable results. The company’s AI investments have cut development time for new initiatives by up to 60% and boosted the number of product features launched in the first half of the year by nearly 80% compared to the same period last year. The growth rate for first-time bookers accelerated to 11%, the highest rate in four years, primarily driven by Gen Z travelers.
Furthermore, the company has increased its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to “at least mid-teens” growth, an upgrade from an earlier forecast of “low to mid-teens,” indicating continued confidence in the global leisure travel demand.
