A Record-Breaking Year: Brisbane Airport Welcomes 25.2M Passengers in FY26
Brisbane Airport (BNE) has made history by welcoming a record-breaking 25,246,950 passengers in the Financial Year 2026. This milestone, a 4.0% increase from the previous year, cements BNE’s status as Queensland’s primary aviation gateway.
International traffic led the growth, with a 7.9% increase to over 7 million passengers. Domestic numbers also saw a rise, growing 2.5% to more than 18 million passengers.
The standout growth story was Mainland China, which emerged as the airport’s fastest-growing overseas market. It recorded a staggering 51.1% increase, adding more than 137,710 passengers year-on-year. Singapore’s Changi Airport also made history, becoming the first international gateway to send over one million passengers to Brisbane in a single year.
Other highlights of the year include:
- Virgin Australia recorded the largest passenger increase among international airlines serving Brisbane, with an increase of over 150,000 passengers.
- Qantas debuted its first international Airbus A220 services from Brisbane to New Zealand.
Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that growth continued despite global disruption. Brisbane Airport is now investing A$5 billion (approx. US$3.5 billion) over five years in its Future BNE infrastructure expansion program.
