Anthropic Unveils Claude Opus 5: Top-tier Performance at a Fraction of the Cost

Anthropic, a leading name in the AI industry, has proudly announced the launch of their latest AI model, Claude Opus 5. This flagship model is now accessible on all Anthropic platforms and can also be accessed via API. The release of this fourth Claude 5 model within a span of two months signifies a notable shift in the AI industry. The focus is now on frequent, iterative enhancements in capability, cost, and speed, rather than on blockbuster launches.

Claude Opus 5 is engineered to provide performance that rivals Anthropic’s most potent model, Claude Fable 5, but at approximately half the cost per task. It supports a colossal 1-million-token context window and 128K output tokens. Additionally, it introduces a new “Effort” setting, allowing users to control the computational power the model uses. This feature, which can be set to low, medium, or high, provides enterprise customers with a robust tool for managing their AI costs.

Opus 5 has now become the default model on Claude Max and the most powerful option available on Claude Pro. The pricing remains unchanged from its predecessor, Opus 4.8, at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. Anthropic highlights that Opus 5 sets a new benchmark in coding and knowledge-work, such as Frontier-Bench and GDPval-AA. It even surpasses Fable 5 in several benchmark categories.
