BETA Technologies Achieves Historic Milestone with First FAA eIPP Electric Organ Transport Flights
In a significant breakthrough for Advanced Air Mobility, BETA Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BETA) has successfully completed the inaugural electric aircraft flights under the U.S. DOT and FAA’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP). This initiative by the federal government is designed to assess the safe operation of next-generation electric aircraft in everyday commercial use within the National Airspace System.
The groundbreaking mission was carried out in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Virginia Department of Aviation, and the Maryland Aviation Administration. Utilizing BETA’s ALIA CTOL electric aircraft, a manufactured organ was transported. This organ was developed in partnership with the biotech firm United Therapeutics Corporation, and the aircraft flew a multi-leg route from Virginia to Maryland, crossing state lines. The mission showcased the potential of electric aircraft to reliably support time-sensitive medical logistics operations.
BETA was chosen to participate in seven out of the FAA’s eight eIPP launch programs, a distinction held by no other electric aircraft developer. These programs are projected to eventually span at least 26 states nationwide. The ALIA aircraft family from BETA has already covered more than 160,000 nautical miles. Furthermore, the company is operating an expanding network of over 100 charging sites across the U.S. and internationally. The eIPP flights represent a crucial advancement towards routine commercial electric aviation operations.
