APEX HUD: Revolutionizing General Aviation Cockpits with Fighter Jet Technology
Military and commercial aviation pilots have been leveraging the power of head-up display (HUD) technology for years. Now, this game-changing situational awareness tool is set to enter the realm of general aviation. The collaborative efforts of three companies – EyeLights, Adventure Pilot, and AURA AERO – have given birth to APEX HUD. This innovative product, a pair of connected augmented reality glasses, projects crucial flight data directly into a pilot’s forward field of view. The product made its debut at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026 event.
The APEX HUD system seamlessly integrates EyeLights’ AR hardware with Adventure Pilot’s iFly Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). This integration enables pilots to display customizable navigation, flight planning, and in-flight data from iOS, Android, and Windows devices. French aircraft manufacturer AURA AERO brings its aircraft integration expertise to the table via its INTEGRAL platform. This platform connects the glasses flawlessly to the aircraft’s data systems. According to the developers, the outcome is a safer, more intuitive cockpit experience that keeps pilots’ eyes focused on the horizon.
The product is currently under development and is expected to hit the market in 2027. Pilots who are keen to be early adopters can pre-order at AirVenture during the July 20–26 event window at a special launch price of $3,992.76 (regular retail: $4,986.66). “Today, we are proud to extend our technology to the aviation community,” announced EyeLights Founder and CEO Romain Duflot at the product unveiling.
