Major Update for Garmin Pilot App Unveiled Ahead of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
Garmin (NYSE: GRMN) has unveiled a significant update to its widely used Garmin Pilot™ mobile app for Apple® devices. This update introduces a redesigned Flights page, expanded SmartCharts coverage across North America, and key enhancements to the renowned FISK VFR Arrival procedure, all in anticipation of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026.
The revamped Flights page, which replaces the previous Trip Planning page, now serves as the central hub for all pre-flight planning. It seamlessly integrates route planning, weight and balance, fuel planning, and briefing tools into a single, cohesive experience. New quickset cards have also been introduced to expedite data entry. Furthermore, SmartCharts — previously available exclusively in the U.S. and Bahamas — will be expanded to include Canada and Mexico for Garmin Pilot Premium users in August 2026.
In preparation for the thousands of pilots set to converge on Wittman Regional Airport, the Oshkosh airport diagram now features colored runway dots and squares used by ATC. The FISK arrival chart has been enhanced with additional waypoint labels and an updated Notes section for improved clarity. Most importantly, as of the July 9 database cycle update, pilots can load the FISK procedure directly into compatible Garmin avionics. This provides autopilot-coupled lateral guidance along the arrival route while maintaining visual traffic awareness.
