Garmin Introduces AXIS™: A Revolutionary All-in-One Cockpit Solution for GA Pilots
Garmin has just launched what it calls a game-changer for general aviation cockpits: the AXIS™ flight display system. Announced on July 8, 2026, AXIS is an industry-first family of integrated flight displays that combines a primary flight display (PFD), multifunction display (MFD), IFR GPS, NAV/COMM radio, and audio panel — all into a single touchscreen unit. The system is designed for certified piston-powered single and twin-engine aircraft, experimental aircraft, and Light Sport Aircraft under the FAA’s MOSAIC framework.
The flagship 11.6-inch landscape display has already received FAA and EASA Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization and is available this month. An 8-inch version is expected in early 2027. Pricing ranges from approximately $8,000 for entry-level experimental configurations up to $51,800 for dual certified IFR-equipped installations.
Key safety features include:
- A dedicated emergency button on the bezel
- Garmin’s Smart Glide™ technology that can autonomously navigate to a nearby airport during an engine failure
- Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA)
- 3D SafeTaxi airport situational awareness
The FAA STC will cover hundreds of certified Part 23 Class I/II piston singles and twins.
“AXIS sets the new standard for what pilots can expect from an integrated flight display system,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin Vice President Aviation Sales, Marketing, Programs & Support.
