Singapore Airlines Announces Major European Expansion, Including New Madrid Route

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is set to execute its most ambitious European network expansion in recent history. This expansion, planned for 2026, includes the introduction of new routes and a significant increase in flight frequencies across Europe.

The highlight of this expansion is a brand-new, five-times-weekly service between Singapore Changi Airport and Madrid Barajas Airport (with a stopover in Barcelona). This service is scheduled to launch on October 26, 2026. This move marks Madrid as Singapore Airlines’ 15th European destination and only its second in Spain.

Beyond the flagship Madrid route, the airline is also enhancing its established European network. Starting July 13, 2026, the Singapore–Manchester route will upgrade from five weekly flights to a full daily service. This service will be operated by the fuel-efficient Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft.

London Gatwick will also see daily departures, complementing existing Heathrow services. This will give London up to six daily Singapore Airlines connections at peak periods. Amsterdam will increase to 10 weekly flights from August 1 through October 22. Munich and Milan will also see increased frequencies.

This aggressive expansion is driven by exceptional demand. According to Aviation A2Z, Singapore Airlines posted its highest-ever Europe load factor in March 2026 at 93.5%, up from 79.7% a year earlier. Analysts attribute this surge, in part, to Middle East airspace restrictions that have reduced capacity from Gulf carriers like Emirates and Qatar Airways. This leaves SIA uniquely positioned to capture long-haul Europe-Asia traffic.

By November 2026, Singapore Airlines will serve 15 European airports with 134 weekly flights from Changi. This represents a 20% increase in flights and a 14% increase in seats compared to June 2024.
