Hilton’s LXR Brand Set to Debut Luxury Hot Spring Resort in Hakone, Japan
Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has recently unveiled a significant agreement with THE SANKEI BUILDING CO., LTD. and HASEKO Real Estate Development, Inc. This collaboration will introduce its esteemed LXR Hotels & Resorts brand to Hakone Gora, Kanagawa, marking the first-ever Hilton property in this renowned Japanese destination. The 94-key luxury resort is slated to open its doors in summer 2028.
Located within the picturesque Momijidani, a celebrated spot for autumn foliage in Hakone, the resort is designed to be an immersive sanctuary. Here, guests can unwind, indulge in natural hot springs, and connect with the breathtaking mountain environment. The property is conveniently located just a three-minute walk from Koen-Kami Station on the Hakone Tozan Cable Car line and approximately 90 minutes by train from central Tokyo. Cultural landmarks such as the Hakone Open-Air Museum, the Hakone Museum of Art, and Gora Park are within easy walking distance.
This signing signifies a part of Hilton’s broader luxury growth strategy across Asia Pacific. The company has plans for more than 15 luxury and lifestyle hotel openings in 2026. LXR Hotels & Resorts, a curated collection of 40 luxury properties worldwide, made its Japan debut with ROKU KYOTO in 2021. The Hakone announcement is accompanied by a separate LXR signing in Tokyo’s Meguro district. Here, the historic Hotel Gajoen will undergo a rebranding and relaunch in 2027. The new Hakone resort will participate in Hilton Honors, Hilton’s global loyalty program.
