Meta Introduces AI Subscription Services Starting from $7.99/Month
On May 27, 2026, Meta revealed its plans to initiate testing for paid subscription tiers of its Meta AI chatbot. This marks the tech giant’s inaugural attempt to directly charge users for artificial intelligence features. The introduction of these new subscription plans is a strategic move by Meta to balance the massive financial investment into AI infrastructure, which runs into hundreds of billions of dollars.
The company introduced two subscription tiers under the fresh brand, Meta One: Meta One Plus for $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium for $19.99 per month. Subscribers of these plans will enjoy:
- Increased computing capacity for complex AI requests
- Enhanced image and video generation capabilities
- Extended reasoning features
Testing of these new features is set to commence next month in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.
Naomi Gleit, the head of product at Meta, explained that these plans are designed to “give people who use Meta AI more to work with, more capacity, bigger, more complex requests.” While the core Meta AI service will continue to be free for regular users, power users have the option to upgrade to the premium tiers.
In addition to this, Meta is also launching new Plus subscriptions globally for Instagram ($3.99/month), Facebook ($3.99/month), and WhatsApp ($2.99/month). These subscriptions offer features such as:
- Story insights
- Super reactions
- Profile customization
This subscription drive is part of Meta’s capital expenditure forecast of $125-145 billion in 2026, primarily driven by AI infrastructure development.
