Amazon Challenges UPS and FedEx with Launch of Supply Chain Services
On Monday, May 4, 2026, Amazon officially launched its Amazon Supply Chain Services (ASCS). This bold move opens up Amazon’s extensive logistics network to businesses of all sizes, posing a direct challenge to industry titans UPS and FedEx.
The new service brings Amazon’s comprehensive portfolio of freight, distribution, fulfillment, and parcel shipping capabilities to any business. This mirrors the strategy that propelled Amazon Web Services to become a cloud computing behemoth. Businesses can now leverage Amazon’s impressive fleet, which includes over 100 cargo planes, 80,000+ trailers, and 24,000+ intermodal containers, to transport goods from raw materials to finished products.
Several major brands, including Procter & Gamble, 3M, Lands’ End, and American Eagle Outfitters, have already signed up for the service. Peter Larsen, Vice President of Amazon Supply Chain Services, emphasized that the company is extending its decades of proven infrastructure to businesses everywhere. This will provide the same cost efficiency, reliability, and speed that Amazon customers enjoy.
The service encompasses freight transportation across ocean, air, ground, and rail; distribution and fulfillment with AI-powered forecasting; and parcel shipping with predictable two-to-five-day delivery speeds. This expansion signifies a substantial growth opportunity for Amazon’s e-commerce unit and escalates competition in the logistics industry.
