China Eastern Airlines Unveils Ambitious 2026 International Route Expansion

China Eastern Airlines has today announced a significant international expansion plan for 2026. This plan introduces multiple new routes and increased flight frequencies to key global destinations from its Shanghai hub.

The airline will launch a direct flight from Shanghai to Tashkent, Uzbekistan on March 30, 2026, marking enhanced connectivity to Central Asia. A new route connecting Xi’an to Vienna, Austria will commence on April 20, 2026, catering to both business and leisure travelers keen on exploring Europe.

The expansion also includes increased flight frequencies on established international routes. China Eastern will boost flights between Shanghai Pudong and popular European cities including:

  • Copenhagen
  • London Gatwick
  • Frankfurt
  • Barcelona
  • Venice

Service to Australia and New Zealand will also see enhanced frequencies, with additional flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

Several previously suspended routes will be reactivated, including flights between Shanghai and Kolkata, India, and Shanghai to Stockholm, Sweden. These reactivated routes demonstrate the airline’s flexibility in responding to market needs and shifting travel patterns.

China Eastern’s frequent flyer program will offer special promotions, with travelers booking through the airline’s app potentially earning double loyalty points. The airline is also conducting feasibility studies for additional routes, focusing on expanding its presence in both Europe and Southeast Asia.
