Apple Experiences 8% Surge in iPhone Sales in China: A First Since 2023

Apple’s iPhone sales in China have experienced an 8% year-over-year leap in Q2 2025. This marks the company’s first quarterly growth in this crucial market since Q2 2023. The turnaround was primarily driven by strategic price cuts and promotional campaigns, which were timed perfectly ahead of China’s 618 shopping festival in June.

Chinese e-commerce platforms offered discounts of up to 2,530 yuan ($351) on iPhone 16 models. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple’s pricing adjustments were well-timed. This growth was achieved despite the intense competition from the resurgent domestic rival, Huawei, which posted a 12% growth and claimed the top market position.

China represents approximately 20% of global iPhone sales, making it a critical factor in Apple’s overall performance. The company had previously experienced declining sales in China for five consecutive quarters. This was due to challenges from trade tensions, regulatory pressures, and competition from local brands offering comparable features at lower prices.

However, analysts warn that this growth may not persist into the second half of 2025. This is because government smartphone subsidies are expected to be scaled back.
