Google’s Gemini AI to Power Apple’s Next-Generation Siri
In a significant technological collaboration announced on January 12, 2026, Apple and Google have confirmed a multi-year partnership. This alliance will see Google’s Gemini AI models become the backbone of Apple Intelligence features, including a completely overhauled version of Siri set to launch later this year.
As per the joint statement from both tech giants, Apple concluded that Google’s AI technology offers the most competent foundation for Apple Foundation Models after a thorough evaluation. This partnership aims to enable a more personalized Siri experience, with enhanced understanding of user context, on-screen awareness, and deeper per-app controls.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is shelling out approximately $1 billion annually for access to Google’s Gemini technology. This deal signifies a substantial victory for Google in the ongoing race to dominate the AI landscape, potentially outpacing OpenAI, which previously had integration with some Apple Intelligence features. The upgraded Siri is anticipated to roll out with iOS 26.4 in March or April 2026, following lengthy delays in Apple’s AI strategy.
Following the announcement, Google’s market capitalization surpassed $4 trillion for the first time, making it the fourth publicly traded company to achieve this milestone. Apple emphasized that all Apple Intelligence features would continue to operate on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute servers, upholding the company’s industry-leading privacy standards.
