Meta Emerges as a Major Player in Nuclear Energy with a Groundbreaking 6.6 GW AI Energy Deal
Meta Platforms unveiled landmark agreements with three leading nuclear energy providers—Vistra, TerraPower, and TerraPower—on January 9, 2026. These agreements secure up to 6.6 gigawatts of power by 2035, sufficient to power an estimated 5 million homes. This move positions Meta as one of the largest corporate purchasers of nuclear energy in American history.
The 20-year agreement with Vistra will yield more than 2.1 gigawatts from existing nuclear power plants in Ohio (Perry and Davis-Besse) and Pennsylvania (Beaver Valley). An additional 433 megawatts will be sourced from planned capacity upgrades.
Meta’s collaboration with Bill Gates-backed TerraPower involves up to eight Natrium® reactor units, capable of generating 2.8 gigawatts. The delivery is targeted as early as 2032.
The agreement with Sam Altman-backed Oklo supports the development of a 1.2-gigawatt advanced nuclear campus in Pike County, Ohio, potentially coming online as early as 2030.
These deals are strategically designed to power Meta’s Prometheus AI supercluster in New Albany, Ohio. The company is steadfast in its pursuit of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of developing “personal superintelligence”. These projects are expected to generate thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of long-term operational positions. They will also fortify America’s nuclear supply chain and grid infrastructure.
